Around 50% of university graduates in Lebanon are unemployed.
While these students are floundering in their quest for a job, their hopes suddenly deteriorate as soon as they know that the position they have applied for requires the equivalent of “five or three years of experience” on their curriculum vitae. “Where do I get experience if no one is willing to hire me?” The answer is simple: Get an internship!
In this context, the Makhzoumi Foundation(MF) and the Lebanese American University(LAU) signed a cooperation agreement on the Internship and Civic Engagement Program at the “Martyr Fouad Fayad Makhzoumi” auditorium at the Foundation’s headquarters in Mazraa, in the presence of Honorary President Dr Fouad Makhzoumi and President of LAU Dr. Joseph Jabra, The President Mrs. May Makhzoumi, the Director General of MF Mr. Samer El Safah, among the foundation’s staff, group of deans and university proffessors.
“The partnership between Makhzoumi Foundation and LAU, is a longstanding academic collaboration that started with the school of medicine, the school of pharmacy and the School of Arts and Sciences in its nutrition program,” said El Safah. “Makhzoumi Foundation’s story with internships is boundless. The Step Forward program is a great opportunity for youth with needed skills for employment.”
In his word, Dr. Jabra emphasized that “The five-year agreement ensures the mutual benefit of the two sides. We both aim to build and maintain Lebanon and work for the people.”
Makhzoumi Foundation President May Makhzoumi said: “It is an honor for the Foundation to cooperate with you for several years. Through the training program, we aim to build students’ abilities in their application of what they have learned academically and provide a high professional atmosphere through enhancing their skills in various areas such as health management, micro credit programs..etc.”
In his speech, Dr. Makhzoumi stressed on the importance of “focusing on an economical developmental project that will secure a better future for our children so that they will stay in Lebanon, and encourage the Lebanese abroad who have achieved important international achievements to return to their country and start investing in it.”
للأسف يعاني لبنان من مشكلة في سوق العمل تتمثل بارتفاع نسبة البطالة الى ال٥٠ في المئة من الفئات العمرية الشابة أي الخريجين الجدد من الجامعات. ففي حين يعاني هؤلاء الطلاب الكثير من الضغوطات خلال سعيهم الى إيجاد وظيفة، حتى ما تلبث آمالهم بالتدهور فجأة فور معرفتهم أن المنصب المتاح يتطلب وجود ما يعادل “خمس أو ثلاث سنوات من الخبرة” على سيرتهم الذاتية. ولكن أين يمكن الحصول على الخبرة إذا لم يكن هناك وظيفة؟ الجواب بسيط جدا: برنامج التدريب والتأهيل!
في هذا السياق، وقعت مؤسسة مخزومي والجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية اتفاقية تعاون حول برنامج التدريب والتأهيل للإسهام المجتمعي في قاعة “الشهيد فؤاد فياض مخزومي” في مؤسسة مخزومي، وذلك بحضور الرئيس الفخري للمؤسسة المهندس فؤاد مخزومي ورئيس الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية الدكتور جوزف جبرا، ورئيسة المؤسسة السيدة مي مخزومي ومدير عام المؤسسة السيد سامر الصفح وفريق عمل المؤسسة وحشد من عمداء وأساتذة الجامعة.
وفي كلمة ترحيبية استهلها مدير عام مؤسسة مخزومي السيد سامر الصفح، أشار إلى أن “علاقة المؤسسة مع البرامج التأهيلية واسعة من خلال برنامج “خطوة إلى الأمام” الذي يعد فرصة عظيمة للشباب لتزويدهم بالمهارات اللازمة وإعدادهم لخوض غمار الحياة المهنية”.
بدوره، أكد رئيس الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية الدكتور جوزف جبرا أنه “من خلال مذكرة التعاون التي نطلقها نزيد مدماكاً في أساس جدار المهمة المشتركة التي ارتضيناها لأنفسنا، واضعين بذلك ركيزة جامدة ستمنح شباب لبنان القدرة على خوض غمار التحضر لبناء الغد”.
من جهتها، قالت رئيسة مؤسسة مخزومي السيدة مي مخزومي: “نحن اليوم نهدف من خلال البرنامج التدريبي إلى بناء قدرات الطلاب في تطبيقهم ما تعلموه أكاديمياً وتأمين أجواء مهنية عالية عبر إعطاء الطلاب فكرة عن الأعمال الخيرية التي تقوم بها المؤسسة وتزويدهم بمهارات إدارية في مجالات عدة كالإدارة الصحية، والبرامج الصغرى والصغيرة والمتوسطة التي يعتمد عليها اقتصادنا، لتزويدهم بصورة متكاملة ويومية عن الحياة المهنية”.
ومن ثم وقعت اتفاقية التعاون بين المؤسسة والجامعة وتم تبادل الدروع التكريمية للمناسبة.
وفي كلمة له، دعا المهندس مخزومي إلى “التركيز على بناء مشروع اقتصادي تنموي يساهم في تأمين مستقبل أفضل لأولادنا ويحضهم على البقاء في لبنان وعدم الهجرة ويشجع اللبنانيين المتواجدين في الخارج الذين حققوا إنجازات عالمية مهمة على العودة إلى بلدهم وتعزيز الاستثمار فيه”.
