A quarter of a century has passed since the launch of Makhzoumi Foundation. 25 years, during which the Foundation has never stopped practicing its mission, no matter how compelling the circumstances. Neither wars, nor divisions, nor fires, nor explosions, nor any crisis have hindered our tasks. In every crisis, as during every day of every year for 25 years, Makhzoumi Foundation has dedicated its various programs to serve and support the community, to build a better tomorrow.
In a country that has been exhausted by crises that has placed their weight on its citizens, which got them struggling daily to secure a livelihood for their families, and got them to place their basic health needs in a secondary position. However, Makhzoumi Foundation’s health program refused to neglect the health of its community, in implementation of its motto, “Your Health Is Our Concern”: It was translated into a series of free campaigns, in addition to his daily services.
Women’s Reproductive Health Day:
Makhzoumi Foundation’s Primary Health Care Center held a free health day, which addressed important topics related to women’s reproductive health, including examinations and awareness about family planning, cervical cancer, breast cancer, poor nutrition during pregnancy, and breastfeeding practices.
Women between the ages of 25 and 55 benefited from this campaign, as they received a free consultation with a midwife, radiologist and nutritionist. After a one-on-one counseling session, benefit from free mammography, cervical screening and malnutrition screening. Malnourished women were referred for free nutrition management through supplementation and education. In addition, after receiving comprehensive education on contraception, the women were provided with family planning tools.
Free lab tests:
The health care program also organized free laboratory examinations once a week for an entire month. Where patients benefited from free laboratory tests necessary to detect and monitor chronic diseases, such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, renal dysfunction among other conditions. HbA1c glucose storage, indices of kidney function (creatinine, BUN and uric acid), and lipid panel tests were conducted.
Nutritional support for children:
The health center at Makhzoumi Foundation has launched a campaign to provide children under the age of 5, who suffer from malnutrition, with free micro-nutritive supplements that enhance their growth and immunity. Meanwhile, the specialized healthcare team and pharmacists at Makhzoumi Foundation provided clear education on the use of supplements to the parents of these children, to ensure their safe and effective use.
Add to the above, the efforts of the primary health care program at Makhzoumi Foundation are not limited only to medical services, health awareness and campaigns. Rather, it extends to include any opportunity and any sector through which the Foundation is able to provide various types of support to the community, and to ensure that the best services are provided according to the best standards.
In addition to obtaining the Accreditation Canada, the Platinum Award from AUB NGOi, and being named as the best primary health care center in Beirut by the Primary Health Care Network in the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the Primary Health Care Program evaluates and ranks Nutrition project proposals by various national and international NGOs. As Makhzoumi Foundation is an important partner in the health and nutrition sector.
Academic Support
On the parallel line of taking care of community health, comes the interest in developing and enhancing the capabilities of individuals. Makhzoumi Foundation’s health program supports Lebanese education by hosting trainees from various health specialties at the Primary Health Care Center. This internship opportunity is a fruitful practical experience for students from different universities to hone their knowledge of health and hone their skills in a supportive environment. Due to the positive feedback from students and universities, the health training program is expanding to include new specialties such as midwife, dentistry, speech therapy, mental health, and public health, in addition to continuing training in pharmacy, nutrition, nursing, medicine and others.
