The American University of Beirut (AUB) hosted a ceremony for signing a memorandum of understanding between Makhzoumi Foundation and AUB’s Global Health Institute, to expand community services, including health and other activities. The partnership will work through long-term cooperation to address the health needs of the population in Lebanon, including displaced communities and host communities.
Established in 1997 as a non-governmental organization, Makhzoumi Foundation works in Lebanon through health care programs, vocational training, microcredit, sustainable development and relief for needy communities, in order to help the children and families of Lebanon’s society achieve autonomy. And the AUB Global Health Institute addresses global health challenges with a focus on sustainable impact through the use of a multidisciplinary approach.
The ceremony was attended by the Foundation’s President Mrs. May Makhzoumi, the General Manager of the Foundation Mr. Samer Al-Safah, and the Program Managers. From GHI’s side, the founding director Dr. Shadi Saleh, the Assistant Director of the Department Mrs. Noha Hashash, and the Management Team attended.
Dr. Shadi Saleh started his speech by remembering the cooperation with Makhzoumi Foundation that was done the last two years. He expressed his happiness that the process started with an official agreement. His opening remarks emphasized that the strategic role of such cooperation was in line with the two organizations’ strategy, particularly in terms of empowering and building community capacity in global health.
Mrs. May Makhzoumi also delivered the opening speech, highlighting the current global challenges to global health in Lebanon and the region. She was pleased with this cooperation and the great enthusiasm to sign the Convention with the World Health Institute, as all of this led to the integration of strategies and common experiences of both groups.
This new launch of Lebanese partnerships underscores the importance of joint work for the health sector and beyond.
أقيم اليوم الثلاثاء في حرم الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت حفل عقد اتفاقية تعاون بين مؤسسة مخزومي ومعهد الصحة العالمية، وذلك لتوسيع نطاق خدمات المجتمع بما في ذلك الصحة وغيرها من الأنشطة. وسوف تعمل هذه الشراكة من خلال تعاون طويل الأمد على تلبية الاحتياجات الصحية للسكان في لبنان بما في ذلك المجتمعات النازحة والمجتمعات المضيفة.
مؤسسة مخزومي التي تمّ تأسيسها في عام 1997 كمنظمة غير حكومية، تعمل في لبنان من خلال برامج الرعاية الصحية، والتدريب المهني، والقروض الصغيرة، والتنمية المستدامة وإغاثة المجتمعات الأمسّ حاجة، وذلك بدافع مساعدة أبناء وعائلات المجتمع في لبنان على تحقيق الاستقلال الذاتي. أما معهد الصحة العالمية في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، فهو يعالج التحديات الصحية العالمية مع التركيز على التأثير المستدام من خلال استخدام نهج متعدد التخصصات.
وقد حضر الحفل رئيسة المؤسسة السيدة مي مخزومي، ومدير عام المؤسسة السيد سامر الصفح وفريق مدراء البرامج، كما حضر عن معهد الصحة العالمية المدير المؤسس الدكتور شادي صالح، والمدير المساعد للإدارة السيدة نهى حشاش، والفريق الإداري.
واستهل الدكتور شادي صالح الحفل بالتذكير بالصداقات التي تمّت مع مؤسسة مخزومي منذ أكثر من سنتين وأعرب عن سعادته ببدء هذه المسيرة باتفاقية رسمية. وأكدت ملاحظاته الافتتاحية على أن الدور الاستراتيجي لهذا التعاون يتماشى مع استراتيجية المنظمتين خاصة من ناحية تمكين وبناء قدرات المجتمع في مجال الصحة العالمية.
وألقت السيدة مي مخزومي كلمة الافتتاح أيضاً حيث سلطت الضوء على التحديات العالمية الحالية المتعلقة بالصحة العالمية في لبنان والمنطقة. وأعربت عن سرورها لهذا التعاون وعن الحماس الشديد لتوقيع هذه الاتفاقية مع معهد الصحة العالمية لأن ذلك كله يؤدي إلى دمج استراتيجيات وخبرات مشتركة لكل من الفريقين.
هذه الانطلاقة الجديدة للشراكات اللبنانية تؤكّد على أهمّيةالعمل المشترك لصالح القطاع الصحي وما بعده.
