Since the start of the Corona virus crisis, and with the spread of this virus that has weighed on the world and imposed a fundamental change in all fields and aspects of life that we have been used to, the response teams within the crisis cell in Makhzoumi Foundation have intensified their efforts to support our fellow citizens.
Awareness and sterilization campaigns
Since the beginning of the crisis, the response teams at Makhzoumi Foundation have conducted a series of intensive awareness campaigns that have covered various areas in Beirut, and thousands of citizens have benefited from them. As shops and entrances to buildings were sterilized, masks, gloves, and sterilizers were distributed to buildings and passers-by. The mobile clinic was the constant companion to all the campaigns, to check up the symptoms of corona virus. The Relief Unit team also followed up on psychosocial support and case management campaigns by conducting awareness sessions for the beneficiaries over the phone.
Given the impact that the crisis we are experiencing, the light had to be shed on mental health. Makhzoumi Foundation hotline was ready to receive cases and communicate with them. Almost 100 cases were followed up with a mental health specialist at Makhzoumi Foundation.
Goodness in the month of goodness
This year, while the Ramadan village organized by Makhzoumi Foundation has been absent from Beirut, which got used to it for more than 7 years, the foundation’s initiatives were not. Our work did not stop with the absence of the village as a result of the outbreak of the global epidemic. Rather, the crisis cell in the institution and the Office of Aid and Social Services distributed and delivered food rations to more than 15 thousand families, through our centers in various governorates after packaging and sterilization, taking into account public safety procedures.
The Foundation also has allocated space in the main center for “My Bread Is Yours” initiative, through which more than 3 thousand bread bundles were shared for needy families. As Eid approached in difficult economic conditions, we made sure to save the joy of children with “The Holiday Outfit” campaign that benefited hundreds.
Continuity of work and adaptation to conditions
With many companies and institutions resorting to closing their doors due to the current situation, our foundation refused to stop and continued to help our beneficiaries, taking into account the emergency situation and harmonizing the current conditions. The primary health care center in Makhzoumi Foundation continued to provide its various health services and to receive patients and vaccination campaigns, while taking all measures of prevention, protection and continuous sterilization.
The Vocational Training Center at the Foundation also followed its educational sessions through Online Learning Technology. In addition, dozens of workshops and training sessions that tackled various topics via the Internet have been allocated free of charge, to provide the opportunity for the largest number of beneficiaries in cooperation with our local and international partners.
The microcredit program was keen to follow its beneficiaries and help them overcome the current crisis. It was an online training course on entrepreneurship and financial management through an educational platform in partnership with Positive Planet International.
The environmental interest was also not absent, “Let’s sort” waste transfer initiative continued its recycling or reusing process.
And our motto remains for more than 23 years: Together we began, and forever united we shall stand!
