Makhzoumi Foundation, a private, non-profit Lebanese organization, started its work in Lebanon in 1997, based on the vision of its founder, his excellency deputy Fouad Makhzoumi, and headed by Mrs. May Naamani Makhzoumi, with the aim of helping empower the local community in Lebanon to achieve independence and self-sufficiency and by improving prospects, empowering individuals for a better society. To reach this goal, Makhzoumi Foundation has 5 comprehensive programs that provide services to beneficiaries.
The primary health care program, which provides a variety of health services at symbolic and appropriate prices, and is active in awareness and medical campaigns under the slogan “Your health Is Our Concern”; A vocational training program that invests youth energies and offers a range of professional courses, training workshops and practical training, to provide young people with careers and job opportunities that enable them to build a better future for themselves, and subsequently a better tomorrow for society.
Creating productive individuals in their communities
There is also the micro-credit program that supports micro-enterprises that form the basis of the national economy, by providing small loans or professional advice, and by holding specialized training courses on entrepreneurship, thus creating job opportunities, maintaining and strengthening existing businesses, and enabling individuals to become productive individuals in their communities.
The Environment and Development Program, which carries the flag of preserving the environment, spreading development and awareness to build society, through multiple courses and educational seminars, and initiatives aimed at preserving the environment, encouraging waste sorting, recycling and reusing, afforestation and supporting agricultural and household occupations. And the relief and humanitarian aid program, which does not only provide in-kind, food, financial and other “assistances” that are recognized in the Lebanese concept, but also provides basic “developmental aids” to build any society, by spreading awareness, eradicating illiteracy and supporting special cases, for families and individuals most in need Lebanese, refugees and foster societies.
An organization such as Makhzoumi Foundation, with its diversified work and its continuity for more than 24 years, and its continuous giving, its funding is divided into several sides. The bulk of the funding comes as support from the founder and honorary president of the Foundation, his excellency deputy Fouad Makhzoumi.
In addition to partnering with international organizations such as UNICEF, the European Union, United Nations programs and commissions, and many other international organizations, not to mention local and international donors, and cooperating with the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and other governmental and non-governmental institutions and agencies. Finally, fundraising campaigns for a specific cause are also launched, to encourage community solidarity.
“All For Each Other”
Makhzoumi Foundation projects do not decline with a specific period and do not have a validity date, but rather they continue throughout the year through the various and comprehensive programs’ services, which were previously mentioned in detail. In addition to this, there are real-time projects and campaigns related to events and changes, the latest of which was the “All For Each Other” campaign launched by Makhzoumi Foundation with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a set of social, educational and awareness campaigns to help the poorest families and invite people to cooperate, which included:
- Distributing tens of thousands of food vouchers to the poorest families
- “My Bread Is Yours” initiative, where hundreds of bread bags were distributed daily at the entrance to the foundation, with the opportunity for anyone who likes to contribute.
- Awareness lectures about proper nutrition in Ramadan, and how to maintain good health during fasting.
- A course to teach the recitation of the holy Qur’an through distance learning technology, via ZOOM
- Ramadan Weekly Riddles Competition, which brought back Beirut’s memory, and provided the opportunity for the participants to strengthen their general knowledge and win multiple prizes offered by the Foundation.
