On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Women’s and Family Committee at the Lions International Association held a special ceremony on Saturday, March 9, at the Phoenicia Hotel, attended by nearly 200 people, in honor of women who made their mark in the medical, media, social and academic fields.
The Lions Association honored the President of Makhzoumi Foundation and the National Commission for Lebanese Women member, Mrs. May Makhzoumi, in recognition of her work in the development of society, and the empowerment of women, through both Makhzoumi Foundation and the National Commission for Lebanese Women’s, and her major work in the pursuit of gender equality, in implementation of the fifth goal of sustainable development goals for the year 2030, as a goal leader.
Mrs. Makhzoumi thanked the Lions Association for their honoring, stressing that Makhzoumi Foundation is always striving to empower women through all its programs. She also added: “We have established a corporate governance initiative in the name of Rami Makhzoumi at the American University of Beirut because it was his passion. Makhzoumi also said: “I am seeking as the fifth goal leader of sustainable development goals: achieving gender equality, to empower women, so we are no longer talking about equality and women’s rights in only one day but 365 days a year.”
The Lions Clubs Association held this honoring ceremony because of its belief in the leading and important role of women in Lebanese society, and to emphasize their ability to excel, compete and serve the community. Part of the proceeds of this activity was allocated to help a woman who owns her own project to support her in developing and empowering her to reach the path of excellence and leadership.
On the sidelines of this meeting, many women’s associations in the Lebanese community were invited to attend an exhibition held in parallel with the ceremony. The association offered them a free hall to display their handicraft. Makhzoumi Foundation participated in this event and presented a collection of up-cycled handicrafts.
بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للمرأة أقامت “لجنة المرأة والعائلة” في جمعية أندية “الليونز” الدولية إحتفالًا تكريميًا يوم السبت 9 آذار في فندق “فينيسيا”، حضره قرابة المئتا شخص، تكريماً لسيدات وضعن بصمتهن في المجالات الطبية، الإعلامية، الإجتماعية والأكاديمية.
وكرّمت الجمعية رئيسة مؤسسة مخزومي وعضو الهيئة الوطنية لشؤون المرأة السيدة مي مخزومي، تقديرًا لعملها في تنمية المجتمع وتمكين المرأة، سواء عبر مؤسسة مخزومي أو عبر الهيئة الوطنية لشؤون المرأة، ولأعمالها الرائدة في السعي لتحقيق المساواة بين الجنسين، تطبيقًا للهدف الخامس من أهداف التنمية المستدامة لعام 2030.
وشكرت السيدة مخزومي جمعية أندية “الليونز” على تكريمها، مؤكدةً أن مؤسسة مخزومي تسعى دائماً لتمكين المرأة عبر برامجها كافة. وأضافت “أقمنا مبادرة لحوكمة الشركات بإسم المرحوم رامي مخزومي في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت لأنه كان شغوفًا بحوكمة الشركات. وتابعت: أسعى كممثلة وطنية للهدف الخامس من أهداف التنمية المستدامة: تحقيق المساواة بين الجنسين، إلى تمكين المرأة فلم نعد نحصر الكلام عن المساواة وحقوق المرأة في يوم واحد بل 365 يوم في السنة”.
وقد أقامت جمعية أندية “الليونز” هذا التكريم إيماناً منها بالدور الريادي والمهم للمرأة في المجتمع اللبناني، وللتأكيد على قدرتها على التفوق والمنافسة وخدمة المجتمع. وتم تخصيص جزء من ريع هذا النشاط لمساعدة سيدة تمتلك مشروعها الخاص، لدعمها في تطويره وتمكينها لتصل به الى درب التميز والريادة.
وعلى هامش هذا اللقاء، تمت دعوة العديد من الجمعيات النسائية في المجتمع اللبناني لحضور معرض أُقيم على هامش الإحتفال، قدمت لهم الجمعية الصالة بشكلٍ مجاني لعرض منتوجاتهم الحرفية واليدوية أمام المدعوين، وقد شاركت مؤسسة مخزومي في هذا الحدث، وعرضت مجموعة من الأشغال اليدوية المعاد تدويرها واستخدامها.
