The President of Makhzoumi Foundation, Mrs. May Makhzoumi, representing the National Commission for Lebanese Women’s Affairs, participated in the first consultative meeting on the Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems Nexus Management Project (Nexus) in Lebanon, organized by the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP) -Med), which comes within the framework of the Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Program and the Global Environment Facility.
The objective of this meeting was to provide information about the activities planned in Lebanon in the field of interconnection management of the aforementioned fields, and to present technical solutions to manage this interconnection, and to discuss the possibilities for upscaling and financing them.
The meeting included a presentation by the Environment and Development Program Manager at Makhzoumi Foundation, Eng. Sallama Namani, on the Foundation’s activities related to the Nexus project, especially in the field of women empowerment such as training on beekeeping skills and making solar cookers, as well as activating the role of youth in preserving the environment. Eng. Namani also mentioned the ongoing projects at the Foundation: Agro-Forestry Nursery in Akkar and “Let’s Sort” for collecting wastes in Beirut to be recycled.
