All health-care workers require clear and comprehensive training and education on the importance of hand hygiene, the approach and the correct procedures for hand-rubbing and handwashing. Because health care-associated infections (HCAI) place a serious disease burden and has a significant economic impact on patients and health-care systems, the simple task of cleaning hands at the right times and in the right way can save lives. Makhzoumi Foundation has set a strategy for this!
The strategy is based on the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care that present the evidence base for focusing on hand hygiene improvement as part of an integrated approach to the reduction of HCAI. Implementation is of utmost importance to achieving an impact on patient safety and therefore guiding and educating healthcare workers aims actively to support safety.
Nurses, receptionists, lab and radiology technicians, nutrition and NCD specialist and even administrative workers all joined a series of training on the best hand hygiene practices that followed a self-administered survey on hand hygiene practices. Evaluation of those practices will follow up.
